Brunch

Before I came to USA, I ate Brunch once a year, on the Norwegian national day. I always thought it was just a fashion word, but I have come to realize it is an actual thing.

You can go through the city, and around every corner, there seem to be a brunch place. It could have been called a big breakfast, or maybe even just a normal lunch, but no, they call it brunch. Especially on Sundays, brunch places, lunch places, breakfast places and even dinner places are packed with brunching families and couples. Only the most brave singles dares to enter these places between 10 am and 2 pm. I do not know if it is actually a couples thing, but it just seem to have become it.

Since I am not in a relationship, to avoid doing what feels like social suicide, I have to be a part of a bigger group. This part of the brunch have actually brought me a lot of new acquaintances and friends. Due to the social unacceptability of going to brunch alone, I have started to join, and invite new people to join in on the weekly tradition. It has become the networking event I wish networking events was, where I properly get to know people, and build friendships instead of a transactional relationship where it is obvious I want something out of the other person.

The brunch-tradition is one of the traditions I would like to bring with me to wherever I go, and continue it.

To end with a fun fact: Alphabet, the mother company of Google, is one of the biggest shareholders in Tesla, considered the biggest competitor of their own self-driving vehicle company, Waymo.
