Retail tech trends
I recently read the 2019 Retail Technology Report, and it does show a trend towards technology, but Mar-Tech is still not a top priority in this environment. Yet, there are interesting times ahead for marketers in retail. In fact, marketers are getting the biggest tech-budget boost among all the departments, despite most of the new technologies goes into improving operations to create an omnichannel approach.
What we also can see is that people seemed reluctant to adapt to new emerging tech, despite knowing the rapidly changing environment they are currently in. Even though AI and chatbots are the technologies most will implement, I find the voice search most interesting. This was supposed to be a really big thing by now, but it does not seem to have had such a huge impact, and the great majority does not seem interested in working on creating a voice-search friendly presence.
In an older post about old sources, I used Voice search-glorified articles from 2019 with 2016 sources as an example of bad information sources. This shows that the efficiency of it as a marketing/sales channel is bad, or that it didn’t become the big search source as first expected. I don’t know since Google hasn’t released any information since 2016 (suspicious). It seems like visual search is a more popular road to thread.
Under you can see some interesting info about what technology companies will be implementing (Graph 1) and where companies are already investing (Graph 2):
