Do organizations care about the CMO when talking about innovation?

Yes, they do! I recently read through Gartners Innovation survey for 2019, and it was uplifting news for a student like me that enjoys thinking about the future. In fact, 91% of CMO’s are leading, or are involved in organizational innovation. It even shows that businesses, in general, are starting to become generous with the funding of their innovation staff. If your company is still lagging, it might be time to pick up some pace or your customer will be disappointed in you.

Other interesting findings are the fact that Enhancing customer experience is the top driver for innovation efforts, tied with driving revenue growth. This is an even stronger proof of the importance of CX, that I have talked about in several older posts. The other thing I noted myself was that the second most important barrier to innovation is the lack of talent, which I get, but why aren’t organizations getting better at retaining and training their employees? I know there are sunshine stories out there, but this survey shows that organizations are doing far from enough.

To the next interesting thing: Chatbots. They keep popping up and frustrating me at whatever site I visit. This is being topped off by the fact that I have seen Chatbot’s being the next big trend for the last 3 years, and I have already seen stories of ‘next year’, finally the year of the Chatbots. Turns out it never got to be the big thing and is struggling with even the smallest challenges, but maybe 2020 is the year. In some cases, it has already had a great impact, but not necessarily in the way first imagined. Read here for more info about chatbots.
